|Rescue Me ID: 16-10-24-00234Chance (male)|
Chance is a very loyal, protective, loving dog with those that he trusts. However, he is so protective of his family with strangers coming into the home, he needs to be muzzled when they enter until it is proven they are no threat. (After he is comfortable, he is your best friend) He did bite two people he did not know once as they entered the home. The only incidents with people have been with strangers entering the home. Recently Chance has attacked another dog in the home and even though they had lived together with no issues for 4 years, it is the veterinarian's recommendation that they be kept separated at all times, he be rehomed or the family has to put him down. The owner has a terminal neurological disorder and is confined to a wheelchair. Keeping them separated at all times isn't possible. Chance has been nothing but loving and playful with children but with his aggressive history, I am not sure a home with small children would be best for him in a rehoming situation. I strongly believe Chance would thrive in a 1-2 person household with no other dogs, a fenced in yard or on a farm, and with people who would have the patience and time to work on his trust issues. |Rescue Me ID: 16-10-19-00381Cricket (male)|
Ever met one of those dogs that everyone just gravitates towards? If not, you have now! Cricket is a super awesome shar pei who, based on his current condition, has probably seen easier days, but that does not get him down. He would much rather talk about the present. Cricket appears to be blind, so how he found himself as a stray and how far he actually got is anyone's guess. Once he realizes you are there (usually by nudging you with his face and/or bumping into your leg) his little tail immediately gives a quick wag and he gently kisses your hand (and is happy to eat any treats he may find in said hand). Cricket's life on the streets left his coat a bit sparse and his skin a bit dry, but hopefully some good quality food and supplements will start to heal that right up. He has also gotten a full spa treatment with bath and is already feeling (and smelling) a bit better. Cricket appears to be housebroken, although we would certainly expect he will have a few accidents as he gets used to a new place and schedule, knows some commands (which he is happy to show off to you) and gets along well with other dogs. Anyone looking for a special dog who lives in the moment and is more concerned about quality of time rather than quantity would be lucky to cross paths with Cricket. (Less)

My name is Alyssa and I have a really good friend who is looking into options of surrendering his pet to a really good home. My sister has gone through you guys (Kim Butler) in the past and has always had great things to say! Here's his story: his dog, Cong a Chinese Shar Pei, is bind. He wasn't blind his whole life, but has been blind for quite some time now. My friend is moving and is in temporary housing right now and it is taking a really big toll on both Cong and his human family. He know their previous home so this was never an issue for him, it is just that it's a big change, a smaller living space, and his stress levels are making him uncomfortable and needy to the family. My friend works long hours and has a long commute home so he is not there often to take care of Cong and look after him as much as he really needs right now. I wanted to know more information about ACDC and if this is a situation you would be happy to help with! There isn't anything medically wrong with Cong, in fact he regularly sees the vet and gets his shots and is up to date on everything. My friend just feels that Cong needs more attention than he is able to give him at this time! (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 16-07-13-00276Molly (female)|
Molly is a very protective dog who is sweet as can be to our family, however, there has been a big shift in our family needs and she has become a little too dominant with visitors. We have tried numerous avenues for training and are just unable to spend any more ADDITIONAL time on rehabilitating her. With time and patience she will be a lovely dog for someone.

Shar-Pei Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. The Shar-Pei is an adorable medium sized, wrinkled dog. Shar-Peis are intelligent, dominant dogs. This breed needs early, consistent training from a master that exudes leadership. Shar-Peis can be socialized to get along with children and other pets. Shar-Peis are extremely easy to housebreak. A Shar-Pei needs to be protected from extreme heat and can live in an apartment with enough exercise.
