This is Dahlia, she is a 5 year old Shar Pei Mix. Dahlia really wants to know why she doesn't have a forever home yet! 'Is it because I am 'just' plain black and white?' 'Is it because I'm a bit too interested in kitties?' 'Am I too old?' These questions are on sweet Dahlia's mind a lot but she tries not to let it bother her. She is very sweet, very loving and very smart! We are working on the kitty issue and I believe we are making progress. She is fine with my cats....until they run; and even then it is not aggression I see but 'I want to play and run too!' Still, she might be better in a home without kitty temptations. She gets along ... (Read More)great with my 2 beasts...I mean dogs. She let's Rocky (a 70lb AmStaff!) know when he is getting too rough with a polite but firm growl and walks away. She plays gently...very feminine! Because of her past..'She was found living in a creek bed, the person who found her gained her trust enough to get her to come to her, and she was picked up by animal control. That's where we stepped in and rescued her from the shelter. They deemed her un-adoptable because of her fear, she was afraid of humans, likely because she wasn't treated very well by them in the past' ... she is a bit timid and hand shy at first but quickly overcomes that. She would be a great companion dog as long as she is introduced to new things slowly and with a confident hand. She is spayed, up to date on shots, micro-chipped, house and kennel trained and knows sit, stay and down. If you would like to meet Dahlia please visit our website and fill out an adoption application. (Less)

Libby looks a little cross-eyed, and will stare very intently at you, which only adds to her charm! She loves to go on walks, play tug-of-war, and plays fetch with a ball.     Hello, my name is Mari! I am a foster parent for the Stanislaus Animal Shelter located in Modesto CA. Last March on 2013, the vet from the shelter gave me a call to see if I could do an emergency foster pup. The shelter knew me well by then and they knew they can rely on me to take in critical animals. Anyways, I went there that same hour and I came across a sharpei little mutt puppy. He was in need of a foster parent that same day and he was a special case. Apparently, the neighbors brought him in because the neighbor saw the owners beating him up. Lets say that those people abused him so bad that they had broken his hip joint. At 3 ... (Read More)months old, that pup had gotten his hip joint broken. It still angers me till this day to think of the cruel and barbaric act that those people had to abuse a poor helpless pup. To make a long story short, he healed perfectly! With love and socialization he grew out of his fear from people and since the day that I took him home, he has NEVER had his tail under him. Dr. Stewart, the vet from the shelter, fixed him but he decided that it would be best if MR. Man(the pup) would go to a rescue where they would pay more attention to the home that he would go to. The policy at the shelter is that when a dog gets placed into the 'rescue' category they only have 5 days for a rescue to come pick them up before they get put down. Of course, I being the strong headed person that I was, took him home the 5th day as I would not have a dog that I spent countless of hours on, get put down. He is under my care until I find him a rescue. I have tried contacting rescues, but no luck. I took a break from contacting rescues and again I am trying again. He is now 1 yr and a month old. a bit of background information about him is that he is kennel trained. Knows how to SIT, STAY, SHAKE, DOWN, ROLL-OVER. Not food agressive nor dog aggressive. That is not allowed in my house. When he gets his food bowl, I have him trained that he needs to sit and look at me until I say the word 'GO' which he knows that is when he can eat. If I do not give that command he will not eat the food. On the leash, he does great. Of course in the beginning he does pull but not where he is dragging you. HE quickly calms down and I have him trained that if he pulls a bit too much, I make a clicking noise and he stops and waits and walks by my side. He is NOT a runner. If I leave him off leash in the park, he will not run. He does not even walk past the sidewalk in my front yard and does not even attempt to jump my fence when he is in the backyard. Me being an animal lover, I have a good amount of dogs at my house from the animal shelter. HE does EXCELLENT with them. I don't know if it is because he is around so many dogs all the time, but he does not really care for them. While some dogs get more energized and rowdy with a lot of dogs, he is calm and quiet. Unless I go and make them all excited. The only bad thing about him, is that he loves people too much. Personally, I like my dogs to be independent and for them to do their own thing (guess I should get cats then, eh?). On the contrary, he is the dog that will always stand by your side with either a toy in his mouth or waiting for you to do something with him. He does not have separation anxiety but he feels more at home with people than with dogs. His tail is always wagging and he does not bark. Rare does he bark and that is when the kids from next door are screaming in the backyard. He constantly goes to dog parks and LOVES traveling in the car to go to the mountains! Oh, by the way, he is NEUTERED, UTD on shots(bordetella, parvo, rabies) and won't be due until July, MICRO-CHIPPED and got dewormed on October again. If you do decide to take him under your care, I would be more than willing to continue fostering him as he is not a nuisance in my household. (Less)

Shar-Pei Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered

I have a few sharpei mixes and my financial situation forces me to downsize as I've already defaulted on my mortgage and need to place some horses (mustangs) and cats as well. Nello is a very intelligent young sharpei crossed with an aussie mother. He's excellent for coyote patrol but goes after smaller varmints like moles, skunks, squirrels and an outdoor cat or two. He's good with my indoor cats however, but I do not trust him with them outside if they run or spat at him. I believe he can be taught to protect as he has the intelligence to train. I have his litter mate and need to keep only one dog. He's very healthy and only had a ... (Read More)rabies vaccination for the county as I know they are dangerous for any animal or human. I prefer he go to an owner of like mind. The breeder had his tail cut and dew claws removed which I also do not support. He weighs approx. 55 lbs., is tall and can run VERY fast. He may be able to train for dog trials with his natural herding instinct. He helps me get the horses back into the pasture if they get out. I love him very much and will miss him. (Less)
